Pick of the Week: Varaluz Affinity Collection
Varaluz is a company that prides themselves in creating recycled and sustainable lighting; they are an environmentally responsible lighting fixture company in both their products and manufacturing. Their fixtures are made of 70% recycled steel and 100% recycled glass, using as much sustainable and reclaimed materials as they can – many of their pieces use natural elements like penshell. Environmentally friendly fixtures are extremely popular and trendy this year. The typical energy efficient lighting used today this is seen through fixtures that are made with LEDs and conserve energy usage.
A favorite this season is the Affinity line, especially the elongated pieces. They are elegant enough for a dining room, yet simple and shallow enough to hang over a kitchen island or bar area. These long pendants are made of gentle curves shaped in the infinity symbol; the frame consists of a linear grid that adds some geometric form and structure, which is softened with panels of scaled seashells. The texture of the scale-like squares adds another geometric dimension that is lacking in many penshell pieces. Most penshell fixtures feature simple cylinders and leave the material to stand on its own. This piece adds to the unique beauty of the soft textured material by overlaying geometric patterns and incorporating soft curves. Affinity’s shape suspended by light airline cables makes it simple and elegant, a perfect piece for many homes with varying décor.
