Pick of the Week: Lantern Pendants
Lighting styles are becoming lighter and cleaner both in finishes and styles this year. One home location seeing a change with this trend is the area over an island or counter top For the longest time it was all about having three mini pendants over the island – now designers are streamlining the look by placing two larger pendants or chandeliers in this space.
On a 60 inch island where you would once have had three 4 inch pendants, you would now replace with two 10 inch pendants. The larger 70 inch islands can now support two 14 inch pendants or chandeliers. A pendant that has become quite popular within the last year is the Hudson Valley Mansfield pendants; the collection features simple cylindrical lanterns surrounded by glass. The Mansfield pendants come in the newly popular polished nickel finish as well as oil rubbed bronze and antique nickel, for a more casual feel. The lanterns fit right in with the retro style that has made a huge comeback – think Restoration Hardware or Visual Comfort. The Mansfield also comes in a two-tier size for small entryways or stairs. Is HudsonValley out of your budget? Maxim also makes a very nice collection of lanterns with simple transitional details; take a look at the Tara collection.
