House LED Lights Vs. Traditional Incandescent Lighting
Over the past several years, light-emitting diode (LED) lighting options have gained popularity among Americans, thanks to their cost effectiveness and energy efficiency. A recent Bloomberg article stated that energy-efficient lighting makes up 80 percent of all U.S. lighting sales, whereas in 2015, the number of households with LED lighting was just below 30 percent.

So why are people making the switch to LED lighting from traditional incandescent lighting? In this blog post, we compare old-school lighting options to new-age lighting options. Here are some of the major differences between House LED Lights and traditional incandescent lighting.
LED lights are best known for their long lifespans — about 25,000 hours on average (usually tested for about three hours of running time a day). Incandescent lights are the opposite, and are known for having the worst lifespan of any bulb on the market at about 1,200 hours. If you do the math, it takes 21 incandescent lights to match the same lifespan as one LED light. That means you’ll have to purchase your incandescent lights 20 times more than opting for LED lights the first time around.
Most studies show that house LED lights are the more efficient option for your home than traditional incandescent lights, also boasting better light quality, faster light-up time and higher durability to bumps and rattles. House LED lights use about 10 Watts of energy and incandescent lights use about 60 Watts, on average. Both lights are available for home, commercial and industrial lighting, but LED lighting is about 60 to 90 percent more efficient than conventional lighting.
On average, House LED Lights use about 75 percent less energy than their incandescent counterparts. It takes 329 Kilowatts of electricity per year to light up your home’s LED lights, and incandescent light bulbs consume 3,285 Kilowatts per year to produce the same electricity.
The cost effectiveness of LED lights is a major reason homeowners are switching to this type of lighting, as it can save them up to 90 percent (sometimes more) on their energy bills, when they’re practicing efficient lighting habits.
Upfront, incandescent lights are the cheaper option of lighting, at about $1 per bulb. House LED lights are about $8 each on first purchase; however, studies have shown when you factor in energy efficiency and lifespan, customers can save more than $3,000 in a 20-year span by switching from incandescent lighting to house LED lights.
On an annual operating cost basis, LED lights cost consumers about $32.85 per year whereas incandescent lights cost $328.59 per year when used the same amount of time. Also, LED lights, if used briefly or efficiently, can last as long as 40 years. Can you say “return on investment?”
Impact on Environment
House LED Lights have quickly gained a reputation of being an eco-friendly lighting option. Neither LED lighting or incandescent lights have toxic mercury, but in terms of carbon dioxide emissions over 30 light bulbs annually, LED lights emit about 451 pounds per year and incandescent light bulbs emit 4,500 pounds per year.
Incandescent lighting is where lighting started many years ago, but as people become more environmentally conscious and technology advances to help consumers save money, house LED lights have taken the stage. At this rate, LED lights are predicted to achieve 61 percent penetration of the global lighting market by 2020. But ultimately, it comes down to your personal preference when choosing the lighting for your home!
