Designing Your Perfect Backyard

This week at Littman Brothers we decided to step outside the office and focus on landscaping and backyard designs!  Host outdoor parties, provide a play area for your kids or give yourself a place to unwind, all while improving your property value.  Your backyard is full of potential to be your personal oasis.  Take advantage of the nooks and crannies of your property by planting some flowers or vegetables.   Place string lights or lanterns across your yard to give your backyard a romantic feel.  Position a grill and a picnic table in your yard and give your family a fun outdoor dining room.  This week we are going to give you some tips to turn your grassy lot into an outdoor escape.

The first step in designing your backyard is figuring out how you want to utilize your space.  Are you looking for more room for your children to run around, a space for you to unwind, a workspace for a new hobby or an area for you and your friends to enjoy?  One of the first steps in applying your design is figuring out lighting and seating.  Strategize your décor so light fixtures and sitting areas are the focus of your backyard, or simply accents on the overall look.

There are many different types of outdoor light fixtures, so you’ll want to find one that best compliments your theme.  Achieve a soft look with string lights and lanterns, or discretely light up your landscaping by adding in ground lights.  Illuminate your backyard with strategically placed posts or utilize your home structure with outdoor sconces.  Seating arrangements will also designate the flow of your backyard.  Situate chairs in a circle for a camp fire feel, put an outdoor couch on the patio to relax on or place a small table and chairs to enjoy the view of your beautiful garden.  Hide a bench in your flower patch to give yourself an isolated area or install a swing for your kids to enjoy.  Your backyard is a blank canvas, design it to best accommodate you.

Amplify the aesthetics of your back yard by adding some creativity to your gardens.  Install a fire pit to give your backyard a welcoming feel or a hammock to distress in.  Put a wooden or stone path in the middle of your flower or vegetable patch for you and your friends to walk on.  Install a pond or fountain for you to unwind by.  Strategically laying down concrete in your backyard designates a flow and standing area for your family and friends.  Play with structures and levels to amplify your landscaping.  There are countless of possibilities with a backyard.

Landscaping projects are a great way to get you outside and enjoying the summer sun.  Improving your landscape increases the aesthetics of your home, creating a welcoming site from the second you pull into your drive way.  Enjoy the grass between your toes, the sound of crickets chirping and a cool summer breeze in your backyard oasis.  Host grand parties outside your home or create a hangout area for you and your friends.  Your backyard is a blank canvas for you to create your own personal nirvana.  Now go outside and start creating!
